  • Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant

University of Rhode Island, RI, USA. 2017 - 2022

I tackled complex optimization problems by improving a Genetic Algorithm for vehicle routing by 1,700x using GPUs, reducing execution time from years to few hours. Statistical analysis further enhanced solution quality by 150% and allowed for problems 20 times larger. I utilized Reinforcement Learning for novel algorithm optimization. I contributed to open-source development by creating a lab-scale Industry 4.0 testbed using ROS and MQTT. My passion for education led me to serve as a lab instructor for senior design courses (ISE 401 & 402) for 6 semesters, delivering lectures on embedded systems and guiding over 100 students through 25 graduation projects. Additionally, I collaborated with NVIDIA to conduct deep learning workshops.

  • Research Associate - AI Lab

University of Rhode Island, RI, USA. 2017 - 2019

I led the university team at the Robot Block Party exhibit in 2018 at Brown University, showcasing robotics to the community. I involved a speech recognition and synthesis system for a robot arm that could draw geometric shapes based on voice commands, utilizing deep learning . I designed autonomous robots using ROS and created a unique ribbon-cutting robot arm for the AI lab's opening ceremony.

  • Industry

  • Automation Commissioning Engineer

    National Grid, Riyadh, KSA. 2014 - 2017

I ensured the functionality, safety, and efficiency of automated systems by overseeing installation, testing, and startup. This included leading the energization of 4 high-voltage substations. Additionally, I reviewed SCADA point lists for over 100 substations, ensuring accurate data collection and system monitoring. I actively participated in shaping the national grid automation standard, contributing to a more robust and reliable power infrastructure.
